Football Has a Flavor—and I Got to Be Part of It…

There’s something about game day that goes beyond the game itself.
Of course, there’s the football. The rivalry. The anticipation.
But there’s also everything happening around it—the people, the energy, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, and the shared excitement of being part of the moment.
That’s what makes game day feel like game day.
And I got to experience that firsthand when I teamed up with Chili’s during a major college football rivalry game to help bring their football happy hour experience to life.

The Recipe for Game Day
The goal was simple:
Great food.
Great drinks.
Great football.
Great people.
Sometimes the best experiences don't need to be complicated.
Bring together passionate sports fans, good food, cold drinks, football, and the right energy—and suddenly, the space around the game becomes part of the experience itself.
That’s what made this opportunity so much fun.
I got to be around some of the best sports fans in the game, enjoy some amazing food, and help bring energy to the bar during a major college football rivalry.
You could feel that game-day spirit.
And that’s something I’ve always appreciated about sports: the game may be happening on the field, but the experience doesn't stop there.

Then Marcus Spears Walked Into the Picture
Having ESPN’s Marcus Spears in the building made the experience even better.
Getting to watch Marcus interact with fans and bring his personality to the experience added another layer to the day.
There’s something special about seeing someone who is such a recognizable part of the sports world bring that personality into a game-day environment.
It reinforced something I already believe:
Sports are about people as much as they are about the game.
The fans matter. The atmosphere matters. The experiences around the game matter.
And food can play a big role in all of it.
Food Is Part of the Game-Day Culture
Think about the way we experience sports.
There’s the jersey.
The team colors.
The traditions.
The conversations.
The celebrations.
And, of course, the food.
Food has a way of becoming part of the ritual.
It gives people something to gather around. It becomes part of the memories connected to the game. It adds another layer to the experience.
That’s why I believe food and sports are so powerful when you bring them together the right way.
Food doesn't have to sit on the sidelines.
It can be part of the culture surrounding the game.
And when brands understand that connection, food can become much more than something being served—it can become part of how fans experience the moment.

More Than Just Cooking
That’s also what opportunities like this mean to me as a chef.
Being a chef is obviously about the food.
But I’ve never believed the role has to end there.
A chef can help create experiences.
A chef can collaborate with brands.
A chef can connect with audiences.
A chef can contribute to sports and entertainment culture.
A chef can help turn food into part of a bigger story.
That’s the space I’m interested in building.
The intersection of food, sports, culture, entertainment, and brand experiences.
Because the kitchen may be where the craft begins, but it doesn’t have to be where the story ends.

Where Food, Sports & Culture Come Together
My experience with Chili’s was a great reminder of how naturally these worlds can connect.
A college football rivalry creates the energy.
The fans bring the passion.
The food and drinks add to the experience.
People like Marcus Spears bring personality and sports culture into the room.
And everyone becomes part of something bigger than simply watching a game.
That’s what makes these experiences exciting to me.
I don’t just want to be around the game.
I want to be part of creating the experience around it.

Game Day Is Bigger Than the Score
There’s a lot that happens before, during, and around a game that never shows up on the scoreboard.
The food.
The atmosphere.
The people.
The culture.
The moments you remember.
Those things matter.
And as I continue building my career as a sports performance chef, I’m excited about the opportunities that allow food to have a bigger seat at the table.
Because food has a place in sports.
Food has a place in entertainment.
Food has a place in culture.
And food absolutely has a place in the experiences that bring people together.
Huge shoutout to the Chili’s team for trusting me to be part of this experience.
I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’m looking forward to creating more moments where food meets the game.
Because when the right ingredients come together, game day becomes more than a game.
It becomes an experience worth remembering. 🏈🔥
