When Chef Hoppie Hit the Streets: Inside My Nike Air Max “Maxxed Out” Moment
Sometimes, You Don’t Realize the Size of a Moment Until You See It on a Billboard
In 2023, I had an experience that reminded me why I’ve never wanted to put a limit on what being a chef could look like.
I had the opportunity to be part of Nike’s Air Max “Maxxed Out” campaign for the launch of the Nike Air Max Pulse.
At first, it was an incredible opportunity to be involved with a campaign built around creativity, individuality, and people who weren't afraid to push boundaries.
But seeing Chef Hoppie represented through the campaign’s social assets and on billboards in New York and Los Angeles made the experience feel completely different.
That was a moment I’ll never forget.
Because this wasn't just about footwear.
It was about what happens when culture, creativity, and individuality come together.
What Was the Nike Air Max “Maxxed Out” Campaign?
The Air Max “Maxxed Out” campaign was connected to the launch of the Air Max Pulse.
As part of the “Of the Street” campaign, Nike celebrated the launch of the Air Max Pulse Cobblestone colorway through a cross-country exploration of the next generation of boundary pushers, innovators, and rule breakers across six cities.
That idea meant a lot to me.
There is something powerful about being surrounded by people who are creating their own lane, challenging expectations, and refusing to simply follow the standard.
And that's what made being part of this campaign so meaningful.

Where Chef Hoppie Fit Into the Story
I’m a chef.
But I’ve never believed that being a chef means you have to fit into one specific box.
Food is creativity. Cooking is expression. And being a chef can open doors into places and conversations far beyond the kitchen.
Being included in Nike’s campaign alongside creatives and culture-shapers from across the country was an incredible experience because it reflected that idea.
I wasn't just being featured as a chef.
I was being represented as part of a larger movement built around people who are willing to push beyond what’s expected of them.
That connection made the opportunity especially meaningful.
From Social Assets to Billboards in New York and Los Angeles
There are certain moments that stay with you.
For me, seeing Chef Hoppie represented through the campaign’s social assets and billboards in New York and Los Angeles was one of them.
There’s something different about seeing yourself represented in a campaign of that scale.
It makes you stop for a second and take it in.
Not because it changes who you are, but because it reminds you how far an idea can travel.
What started with me being part of the campaign became a moment where Chef Hoppie was represented alongside creatives and culture-shapers through Nike’s storytelling.
That was special.
It Was Never Just About the Shoe
The Air Max Pulse was at the center of the campaign, but for me, the meaning went beyond footwear.
It was about culture.
It was about creativity.
It was about individuality.
And it was about challenging the standard.
Those are ideas I connect with deeply.
I’ve always wanted to push the boundaries of what people think a chef can be. Not by trying to be something I’m not, but by being willing to explore what else is possible.
That’s what made this experience stand out.
The campaign wasn't simply a moment where Chef Hoppie appeared alongside a product.
It was a moment of representation.
A reminder that chefs can be part of conversations around culture and creativity in ways that go beyond food.
What the Experience Meant to Me
Looking back, I’m grateful for the opportunity because it showed me something important.
You don't always have to follow the traditional path to create something meaningful.
Sometimes, you just have to keep pushing.
Keep creating.
Keep showing up as yourself.
Being featured alongside creatives and culture-shapers from across the country was an incredible experience, and seeing that representation through social campaign assets and billboards in New York and Los Angeles made it a moment I’ll always remember.
I’m proud of it, but I’m also grateful for it.
Because moments like this don't mean you've arrived.
They remind you to keep going.
Redefining What a Chef Can Be
My journey has never been about simply being known as a chef.
It’s about continuing to explore what that title can mean.
A chef can be an athlete's partner in performance. A creator. A storyteller. A collaborator. A voice in culture.
And sometimes, a chef can even find himself represented in a Nike campaign.
That’s what I took from the Air Max “Maxxed Out” experience.
It wasn’t just a campaign I was fortunate enough to be part of.
It was another reminder that the boundaries around what a chef can be are only as strong as the limits we put on ourselves.
I’m grateful to Nike for allowing me to be part of something groundbreaking.
And I’m proud to keep pushing.
Because the kitchen may be where my craft lives, but it doesn’t define the limits of where that craft can take me.
